The Magic of Mountain Mist
Waking up before dawn has never been easy. But when you're chasing the perfect shot of mist rolling over the Hoang Lien Son mountain range, the early alarm feels like a small price to pay.
The forecast said clear skies, but as I drove up the winding roads from Sapa, I could already see the valleys filling with a thick blanket of fog. Most people would see this as bad luck. For a landscape photographer, it's pure magic.
I set up my tripod at a spot I'd scouted the day before — a ridge overlooking a sea of clouds with the peaks of Fansipan emerging like islands in the sky. The light was soft, diffused through the mist, creating an ethereal atmosphere that I could never capture midday.
Two hours of waiting, watching the mist shift and dance between the mountains. Each frame told a different story. This is what I love about landscape photography — you can never truly control it. You just have to be patient enough to let the moment find you.
